The Colt House & The Glacial Deposit
The timber house located within the Township dates from 1954. It was originally built to house one of the Duke of Argyll’s shepherds. Edward “Eddie” MacCallum, Auchindrain’s last tenant farmer and his family moved into this house from MacCallum’s House (Building A) sometime after 1954 and lived here until Eddie retired and the family left Auchindrain. The building is quite different from the Township buildings, in that it was built using modern off-site production techniques and universally available materials. Although it looks man-made, the bracken-covered mound to the right of the house is a natural feature left by a retreating glacier at the end of the last Ice Age.
