The Stable (Building E)
Building E was built around 1897 and was one of the last buildings to be built at Auchindrain. Evidence from different types of mortar and wall thicknesses suggest that it was rebuilt around 1904. Since
the building is orientated east-west it was not built to be a winnowing barn. Oral evidence indicates that it was originally used as a shed where calves were reared. The building was later converted into a stable as the use of horses at Auchindrain grew in the mid 20th Century. Unusually the original stalls in the eastern end of the building appear to have been built on a raised platform. A survey of the building provides some evidence for a manuring passage by the western door jamb. The cobbled floor however appears to have been repaired in many places making the positive identification of features within it difficult.
